The Association of Friends and Sponsors of the GFZ (Verein der Freunde und Förderer des GFZ e.V.) - short name: GFZ Friends - founded in 2004, aims to promote the activities of the GFZ Helmholtz Centre for Geosciences ideally and financially.

What we do:

• We raise public awareness of the work of the GFZ and the importance of geosciences, e.g. by organising public lectures.
• We support young scientists, e.g. by awarding the annual Friedrich Robert Helmert Young Scientist Prize.
• We promote contact with our alumni through a newsletter and networking.
• We strengthen the sense of community at the GFZ, e.g. by providing financial support for the summer party.
• We explore the history of the GFZ, preserve the historical heritage of Potsdam's Telegrafenberg and promote relevant initiatives.
• We organise annual excursions to sites and facilities of geoscientific significance.
• We network with the support associations of other Helmholtz centres.

Annual membership fees:

• FRIENDS: Individual members €30, couples/families €40, PhD students/students/trainees €15
• SPONSORS: Natural persons from €200; companies/legal entities from €500
