The ‘history@GFZ’ project group, consisting of Sibylle Itzerott, Sabine Richter, Jörn Lauterjung and Franz Ossing, has set itself the goal of collecting historical material on the history of the GFZ and storing it in a central location. The project is supported by GFZ Friends.

With the retirement of the GFZ's founding generation due to old age, there is a risk of losing the knowledge of important contemporary witnesses and documents, especially from the GFZ's early days.

‘history@GFZ’ aims to present the historically, socially and scientifically unique conditions under which the GFZ was established.

In addition to reviewing and recording texts, images and audiovisual material, important contemporary witnesses will also be interviewed and their memories recorded. The aim is to produce a monograph.
