to honour and recognise outstanding achievements by trainees at the GFZ in the 2025/2026 academic year
The Association of Friends and Supporters of the GFZ e. V. (GFZ Friends) is awarding the GFZ TRAINEE AWARD this year to trainees at the GFZ Helmholtz Centre for Geosciences.
The new Trainee Award honours the outstanding achievements of trainees and reinforces our commitment to quality, transparency and the promotion of learning. It demonstrates that supporting science through excellent young talent is an essential part of our mission. By awarding the Trainee Award, we promote interdisciplinary exchange, motivation and sustainable development within the training environment.
Call for entries
The Trainee Award is being presented for the first time this year. The GFZ Friends Board plans to present this award annually. We are looking for trainees who have distinguished themselves through outstanding achievements and commitment during their training. Particular consideration will be given to applicants who contribute to research, the improvement of processes or the promotion of science communication. All GFZ trainees who have held a current training contract with the GFZ since at least autumn 2025 are eligible to apply. The deadline for submissions is 15 June 2026
Award
The winner will receive a cash prize of €500, along with a certificate of honour and a one-year honorary membership of the GFZ Friends. The prize money is not earmarked for any specific purpose. The award ceremony will be publically announced.
